The Profiler for students
at college or university
Dyslexia, as has been highlighted elsewhere, is “a difficulty in the acquisition of fluent and accurate reading and writing skills. However, the areas of difficulties far exceed this definition. The reason is that the cognitive skills that impact on literacy may also cause difficulties in other areas. Whilst many individuals find coping strategies to help overcome their literacy challenges, there is a significant step from school to college or university which could have a significant impact upon the final qualification. These challenges have come under several umbrella terms, including study skills, learning essential and learner preferences. It is this part, and the recommendations, which make this Profiler a step up from Dyslexia Plus.
DyslexiaPlus Student - Q & A
Who is DyslexiaPlus Student Profiler for?
The DyslexiaPlus Student Screener is designed for those at college or university and who may be dyslexic. However, it does not limit itself to looking for dyslexia traits - it also looks at strengths and challenges in the areas of learning, and provides personalised advice and guidance for those in a learning environment.
What can you use the report for?
Although primarily aimed at practical and personalised support, you can also share the report with others, such as a support officer in college or at university.
So why should I use this?
This Profiler is a screener, but offers much of the same information, advice and guidance as a full assessment, but at a significantly reduced cost (plus no delays and no travel!) Of course, only with a full (human) assessment can you have the document you may need to access funding. But DyslexiaPlus Student may help you in the decision-making process as well as help those supporting you understand the best support that may work for you.
Will it say if I am dyslexic?
A formal diagnosis of dyslexia is usually only provided by an appropriately qualified assessment specialist such as an educational psychologist. However, the report will confirm your areas of strengths and weaknesses, and will tell you if your profile is consistent with someone with dyslexia.
What is included?
It provides you with a picture of your strengths and areas of challenge, and practical guidance and links to resources.
How long will it take?
In DyslexiaPlus Student Profiler you need to complete all the modules in the main folder. This should take you about an hour or so depending on how fast you answer the questions. But don’t worry, you do not have to do it all in one go. You can do it in several sessions to complete them all. But please note that you can only do each test once. If you have to stop half-way through a test, you also have the option to continue where you left off.
Is there a time limit for access?
You can also access your report for up to two years after you have taken the modules.
Will I have to read a lot?
The DyslexiaPlus Student Profiler Report is like your own “Personalised Support Manual”. It has lots of information and we have made it as dyslexia-friendly as possible, with information is available in different formats. You may want to dip into the report and set some goals for yourself, and then review it when you need to.
To make life easier, we also have shortened url’s (links to websites) to make it easier for you. We have our own www.dotr.im short links (Do Trim!) to make it easier for you so you don’t have to retype the whole link.
What computer do I need, or can I use my tablet?
The system works through your browser and should work on Windows, Apple and Android devices. To be dyslexia-friendly, the tests have sound files. You need reasonably fast internet speed to avoid frustration waiting for downloads. We do not advise you using it on a mobile phone.
